Tractus selected to represent Alabama in Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan — October 2025 – Tractus has been chosen to staff the Alabama Department of Commerce‘s new business development office in Tokyo, marking an important step in Alabama’s economic relationship with Japan.

The office, announced during the 47th annual Southeast U.S./Japan Association Joint Meeting in Tokyo, will serve as a direct connection between Alabama and Japanese companies. Our team will support Japanese businesses with operations in Alabama while identifying new opportunities for trade, investment and collaboration.

Japan has been a major economic partner for Alabama, with around 80 Japanese companies currently operating in the state. Since 1999, Japanese companies have invested over $10.1 billion in Alabama, creating more than 25,000 jobs.

Working closely with the Alabama Department of Commerce, the Tractus team will promote Alabama’s advantages as an investment destination, including its skilled workforce, infrastructure and business climate. We’ll also help Alabama companies explore export opportunities in Japan.

Dr. Kimihiro Iwao will serve as Alabama’s full-time Japan representative, supported by the broader Tractus team.

This appointment builds on Tractus’s decades of experience helping organizations navigate business expansion in Asia and beyond, connecting multinational companies with the resources and local expertise they need to succeed.
